Shot in its majority in South and East London, the series looks at the palms, yuccas and banana trees that have become regular occurrences in the city’s streets and gardens. Appearing as alien as the lands they originally came from once seamed in the eyes of their explorers, there is a strong disconnect between these trees and the cold urban landscape they inhabit. Their presence can be interpreted threefold: as remnants of a fallen empire’s past glory days, symbols of the diverse cultural backgrounds of the city’s inhabitants or as beacons of global warming and the changes the rising temperatures are already bringing.
